We are passionate and intentional about student’s learning and giving them the best possible tools to be successful.

At Higher Horizons Tutoring we are dedicated to helping each learner, each day, find success and overcome constant struggles with Reading, Writing and Math. We use a multi-sensory approach that helps them visualize and understand words which will increase their reading fluency and spelling skills giving them the confidence they need to be successful.

    Brenda established Higher Horizons Tutoring in 2018 after teaching in the public school system for over 20 years. She and her husband have 4 adult children. Three of her family members are dyslexic so she knows first hand the struggles some students face.

    Beth joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in November of 2019. She teaches high school math in Grand Rapids to refugee high school students from all over the world! She and her husband live in Holland along with their four children and four dogs.

    Jill joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in 2020. She and her husband have two adult children. She has family members with dyslexia, ADHD, and hearing impairments giving her unique qualifications for understanding and tutoring students who struggle in similar areas.

    Ali joined the Higher Horizon’s Tutoring team in 2021. She has taught 8 years in the public-school setting and currently teaches 2nd grade. She understands the importance of giving each student exactly what they need and works hard to build relationships with all students. She lives in Holland and loves spending time with her family, being active and catching a sunset over the lake.

    Cory joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in fall of 2021. He has multiple years experience of teaching 5th – 8th grade math. Cory, his wife, and their two boys live in Holland.

    Susan joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in July of 2021. She has been a special education teacher for 44 years and has worked with students with all levels and kinds of disabilities. She has taught students from Preschool ages through age 25. In addition to tutoring at Higher Horizons Tutoring, she also works with Tier 2 Support and Special Education for Holland Public Schools. She knows that EVERY child can learn and her passion is to help each child do just that! She and her late husband had 6 children, two of which have ADD, and one also has auditory processing disorder. She will soon welcome her sixth grandchild.

    Emily has been tutoring and helping students reach their goals since 2017. She entered education as a high school paraprofessional and loved working with the students and watching them learn. She is dedicated to establishing a supportive environment and helping students grow in all subject areas.

    She believes EVERYONE can reach their goals. Emily lives in North Muskegon and loves being outdoors hiking, camping and going to the beach. She earned her degree in biology from GVSU.

    Lindsay joined the Higher Horizon's Tutoring team in May of 2022. She has 10+ years of teaching experience and enjoys watching students grow and gain confidence when given the appropriate strategies and resources to meet their individual needs! Lindsay lives in Holland with her husband.

    Mandy joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in July of 2022. She teaches high school Social Studies and Electives at a virtual school in Zeeland. She and her husband enjoy traveling, biking, and spending time on the water.

    Katie Webster grew up in Grand Haven Michigan with her two brothers, one of which happens to be her twin! She graduated from Hope College in 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and recently applied to medical school with the hopes of becoming a physician one day. Katie has been working in a hospital with adult patients, but she missed working with children and adolescents. She started tutoring at Higher Horizons Tutoring this past May and has also tutored several classes in college. Katie loves to ski, cook/bake, and will be getting married next year!

    Drew is a mathematics and economics student at Hope College. He started tutoring with Higher Horizons in 2023. As someone with ADHD and dysgraphia, he has a unique capacity to understand the super powers and struggles of a neuro-atypical mind. Drew can help your child make mathematical discoveries and connections in ways that really stick. He says, “We’re not memorizing formulas, we’re really understanding how numbers work.” When not playing with numbers, Drew likes to play Ultimate Frisbee, play the guitar, and perform card tricks.

    Sara joined Higher Horizons Tutoring during the summer of 2023. Sara is an early elementary educator in a local school district. She is passionate about being a champion for each student - allowing each student to learn and grow. Sara lives in Holland with her husband and their miniature dachshund, Penny.

    Arin joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in 2022. She has taught 3rd grade in a local elementary school for 6 years. Arin lives with her husband and 3 pets! She enjoys reading, vacationing around Michigan, and runs on coffee! Arin is dedicated to ensuring all students feel a sense of belonging and success in their education and loves watching the growth students make once their confidence is boosted!

    Tyana began tutoring students in 2021, and recently started tutoring at Higher Horizons Tutoring earlier this year. Tyana graduated from Grand Valley State University with her degree in Language Arts/Education with an Elementary Education minor. She has a passion to guide and encourage students to grow in all areas of study, but specifically loves teaching students to adore reading and writing.

She loves finding creative and unique ways to help students enjoy learning. In her spare time she enjoys sewing, painting, and spending time with animals of all kinds.

    Aine joined the Higher Horizons Tutoring team in 2023. She is a senior at Hope College studying biomedical engineering. She has always loved working on math and science classes and trying to problem solve in those areas. In her spare time she enjoys putting together puzzles and watching Disney movies with her family.
